Spinner dolphins feed in deep water after dark and come into shallow, sheltered lagoons after sunrise to rest, socialise and look after their calves. Samadai and Sataya are those lagoons. That is why you meet them here almost every day.
We float at the edge of the rest zone instead of chasing them. The pod decides how close it comes, and most days that is very close.
Sataya overnight
The day boats reach Sataya around 10:30. The dolphins come home at sunrise. Spend the night on the boat and you get the lagoon to yourself: first light, flat water, no other boats.

Sleeping on deck and then being in the water at 6 am with the whole pod, no other boats, is the best thing I have done in Egypt. Crew were brilliant.
Um 11:00 waren wir zurück im Hotel und die Kinder haben immer noch geredet. 15 Minuten Fahrt, Delfine, Riff, fertig. Schwimmwesten für alle, Guide sehr aufmerksam.
Die Lagune ist riesig, das Wasser ruhig, und die Gruppe im Wasser war klein. Ehrlich kommuniziert: Wildtiere, keine Garantie, und trotzdem über 30 Delfine um uns herum.
